Announcement of New Orchestral Work 2023

I am delighted to announce that I have been awarded funding from the National Culture and Arts Foundation in Taiwan for my project to compose a large-scale orchestral work which involves research on the oceanic ecology and sonic behavior of the Cetaceans. The work will be scored for triple-woodwind orchestra with a duration of 15+ minutes.

I am very grateful for the NCAF’s support, which not only enables me to realize my artistic aspirations but also allows me to further explore the relationship between the marine life and its mysterious sound world through my creative writing informed by scientific research. Through my previous experience, I was able to initiate delving into this complex and fascinating realm for a chamber-scale commission from the Lucerne Festival Forwar, i.e. “Into the Silent Ocean: Listening to Cetaceans.” This time I am thrilled to delve deeper into what I find to be truly inspirational subject, with the full force of a large orchestra at my disposal. The new project will result in a composition which aims to raise public awareness of the critical importance of preserving our oceans and marine life, which are essential to human coexsistence.

Chia-Ying warmly welcomes interested orchestras/organizations worldwide for joint collaborations in raising the consciousness through musical ideas, expanding the impact of this meaningful project to a wider audience.
